September Center For Art & Education will host an opening exhibit for Barbara Loftin on September 11, 1 PM – 4 PM. The Exhibit will be on display September 6th – September 23, from 10 AM – 4 PM Tuesday – Friday after hours by appointment. Barbara Loftin and her husband John have lived and worked in the Fort Smith, Van Buren area for the past twenty years. Barbara a CAD operater at Rheem Manufacturing and an active supporter of the United Way spends her spare time doing what she loves most creating art. This bright new artist will be displaying her first body of landscapes and still-life’s in a solo exhibit this September. Inspired by the works of Vincent Van Gough, Barbara has been able to capture some of his vibrant colors in her own art pieces. Loftin states that she has always enjoyed working in oil, she likes the way it mixes and blends. The way you can paint thick or thin with a brush or with a knife make oil the mediums of her choose. Oil challenges her to perfect its use. She states that she enjoys the act of painting, the way the paint covers the canvas or board, the blending and moving of colors, finding highlights and shadows to create a visual statement of what I see and feel. Weather she is painting with a knife or brush, she is trying to put down the spots of color and concentrate on the way colors interact with each other. She hopes to convey to the viewer the way she sees and feels while painting her subject. Barbara has studied art in many settings in school as a young adult and has continued to study in classes, workshops and private lessons. She has studied under local artist Carol Hallock and Patricia Lappin and has participated in workshops with George Kountoupis. Loftin has exhibited in the studio at the Center For Art & Education, and shown her work at Fort Smith Art Center, Sager Creek Arts, Siloam Springs, Arkansas River Valley Arts Center, Russelville, and U of A at Fort Smith. Barbara Loftin is a member of CAE, Fort Smith Art Center and National Museum of Women in the Arts.October "Discover the West Texas Skies
of Vicki McMurry" McMurry treats every square inch of
canvas as an individual abstract painting, creating an overall effect both
layered and symmetrical. Alive with energy and dynamic perspectives, her
paintings change the way we view landscapes. We are invited into a natural
world in which vast open spaces and balanced color offer harmony and a sense
of freedom. Visit
