Text Box: Center For Art & Education Celebrates 29 Years
Enjoy the potpourri of styles, subjects and mediums offered by the "Lunch Bunch" painters at the Sunday, August 7th opening from 1 to 4 p.m. This August opening is especially important because it celebrates the CAE’s 29th birthday.
The Lunch Bunch is open to all painters, including those working on their own projects and those who choose to paint the still life set-ups provided at the CAE. Still life subjects range from flowers the artists bring from their gardens to interesting pottery or favorite objects for all to enjoy. New painters are encouraged to express themselves and experienced painters are always ready to share their knowledge when asked.
As a fund-raiser for the CAE, they collect a small fee for the lunch that is provided by members. This money is used to purchase library books and as a bereavement fund for CAE.
The group meets on Wednesdays in September to June from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for an open studio and paints plain-air or at a member’s home during the month of July. New members are welcome to join. (See July schedule on page 3.)
Twenty months of work and organization went into the first Historical Quilt which was designed by Janalou Devers. The historic, detailed story of Crawford County is now captured in a beautiful quilt. Portions of this quilt’s squares were created by Helen Hallum. The quilt will be part of the August show and will be on display through August 26.

Illustration of the Late Joseph Lombardero
Opening July 10, 1PM - 4PM
Enjoy the illustrations of award-winning local artist Joseph Lombardero throughout the month of July at the CAE. Lombardero, who lived and breathed to make art, according to his wife, Antoinette Edelmann, created masterpieces until his sudden death in July of 2004.
Lombardero was born in Tampa, Florida on December 2, 1922. He graduated from the Ringling School of Art, where he primarily studied composition and design. He was stationed at Fort Chaffee during World War II, where he met his wife. He began his career as an illustrator in 1948, working for the advertising firm Sudler & Hennessy in New York. He worked as a freelance illustrator from 1957 to 1993, when he retired. He won several awards and was recognized by the American Society of Illustrators over the course of his career.
The retrospective display of Lombardero's works will feature his early watercolors, acrylics and oil paintings created during his retirement. The majority will be displays of his book covers, ranging from studies to completed covers. Lombardero designed covers for numerous books, one of which is "Longarm," a series of popular westerns.
The Studio will feature artist Anna Sue Wilcox and the students who participated in Lin Chen’s oil classes. Wilcox works in oil and specializes in portraits. She says, "painting is my life and I am compelled to do it." Lin’s students work with still life studies of oil using the pallet knife method.
The children's gallery will display the artwork of Wee Draw Students.
This show will be on display from July 10 - 29.

Students Get Medieval at Summer Art Camps
Students from the Crawford and Sebastian County area have a chance to get medieval this summer! The CAE is hosting week-long camps in seven communities.
The camps, which last from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. each day, are held in conjunction with the Crawford County Library System.
This year’s theme focuses on artists from the late middle ages to the Renaissance. Each day, the students first learn about an artist. Artists discussed this summer include Raphael, Donatello, Corrieggio and others.
Students also learn about principles and elements of art , such as shape, line, balance and color.
Then the fun begins. Students create masterpieces with the help of artists and volunteers each day. The children experience various mediums, such as oil pastels and watercolor.
This year, such masterpieces include dragon sculptures, castle drawings and decorative goblets.
Aside from exciting projects, students participate in other activities like creative writing, group art projects, dramatic endeavors and other innovative undertakings.

Text Box: Business That Supports the Arts Delta Investment Management Gary’s Collision Center
CAE would like to express thanks to two area businesses that provided a unique opportunity for the staff of the art center.
Delta Investment’s Donna Young and Gary’s Collision Center’s Lyn Brown provided scholarships for Jane Owen, Director of CAE, and Vonda Norwood, volunteer staff, to attend a Microsoft Computer Training course at the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith. This course provided training in Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point.
The skills learned from this course will improve the effectiveness of CAE office staff. What a great way to invest in the arts!
