The organization began in August 1976 with a meeting of seven Crawford County citizens who possessed a love for art and a dream for an art center. In 1979, Crawford County Art Association (CCAA) purchased a turn-of-the-century home which became the first home of the Crawford County Art Center.
In 1984, CCAA acquired the historic St. Michael's Catholic Church, circa 1912. The hardwood flooring, beautiful stained and etched glass windows and unique architecture provides a calm and soothing atmosphere in which to view and study art.
On May 12, 2003, our Board of Directors voted to change CCAA's name to Center for Art & Education. It was felt that this name reflects the contemporary vision of the board and our supporters to provide a place where all forms of art can be studied and experienced.
